I hereby humbly and respectfully express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to you all esteemed and distinguished MWAN Lagos amazon Past Presidents, Elders, Seniors and Colleagues for your presence, support, prayers, and kind wishes which in no small way contributed to the overwhelming success of the Investiture Ceremony and inauguration of the 2023-2025 Biennium EXCO yesterday, 23rd November, 2023.
Special appreciation to my indefatigable predecessor, Dr. Ibironke Sodeinde and to the LOC ably chaired by Professor Donna Umesi.

World Breastfeeding Week

MWAN Lagos, in collaboration with MWAN National Maternal and Child Health Committee & Saro Lifecare Ltd. commemorated the World Breastfeeding Week on Tuesday 6th August, 2024 with the following activities:
1. Public enlightenment and awareness on Radio Lagos 107.5 FM in the indigenous Yoruba language. Dr. Temitayo Ishola, Chairman, MWAN Lagos Public Health Days' Committee, was the guest on the phone-in yoruba programme called Ojutaye.
2. Health Education on the benefits of Breast Feeding at the Paediatrics Outpatient and Child Welfare/ Immunization Clinics of General Hospital Ifako Ijaiye. In attendance were Dr. Funmi Ige, President MWAN Lagos, Dr. Temitayo Ishola (Chairman, Committee on Public Health Days), and Dr. Bernadette Morah, who joined other health workers at GH, Ifako Ijaiye to celebrate the day.
Gifts (diapers, detergents, and Purit disinfectants) were distributed to mothers on the delivery and postnatal wards after the talks.

AIM-MNCNH champions and one super champion

On Friday, June 13, 2025, MWAN Lagos inaugurated 14 AIM-MNCNH champions and one super champion.
The Accelerating Implementation for Maternal, Newborn, Child Nutrition and Health (AIM-MNCNH) is a project aimed at reducing maternal mortality ( especially resulting from PPH which is the leading cause of maternal deaths) through the adoption of evidence based MNCH interventions and innovations.
The project is a collaboration between MWAN and a consortium of partners, namely - Africa Centre for Population Health and Policy ( ACEPHAP ), Pathfinder International, and Centre for Communication and Social Impact (CCSI).
The 10 female and 4 male champions and the one super champion were inaugurated by Dr.(Mrs) Kemi Ogunyemi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, who represented the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi.

World Blood Donor Day

In commemoration of 2025 World Blood Donor Day,
1. Dr. Bodunrin Osikomaya, MWAN Lagos member and the Executive Secretary LSBTC, was at WASH FM 94.9 on 13th June to sensitize and enlighten the populace on the theme and the importance of blood donation.
2. MWAN Lagos President, Dr. Funmi Ige, participated in a road walk/ blood donor drive at Gbagada General Hospital premises on 14th June.
3. MWAN Lagos President, Dr. Funmi Ige was one of the voluntary blood donors on World Blood Day, 14th June.

Menstrual Hygiene Day with WASH FM 94.9 and Maden Healthcare Foundation

MWAN Lagos commemorated World Menstrual Hygiene Day in collaboration with WASH FM 94.9 and Maden Healthcare Foundation on June 18 & 19.
Health talks on menstrual hygiene, demonstrations on how to apply and dispose of sanitary pads, as well hand washing were carried out in 5 schools (2 private, 1 public, 1 Islamic, and 1 Christian).
Free sanitary pads were given to female students, while an emergency Menstrual Hygiene Kit and enlightenment posters were given to each school.
About 500 students and 30 teachers were reached across all the schools.
Dr. Funmi Ige, (MWAN Lagos president), Dr. Atinuke Ajoloko (Secretary) and Miss Ifeoluwa Okunribido ( medical student) participated.

MWAN Lagos Statement on International Day of the Girl 2024: Girls' Vision for the Future
On this International Day of the Girl, MWAN Lagos joins the world in celebrating the theme ‘Girls’ vision for the future.
Despite facing global crises; climate change, conflict, and poverty, girls continue to lead with hope and determination, envisioning a world where they are empowered, respected, and protected. However, they cannot do it alone. Girls need allies who listen, invest, and provide the resources to help them realize their potential.
When girls are given the resources, opportunities, and platforms they need, their potential is limitless. And when girls lead, the impact is profound. It strengthens families, builds resilient communities, and fortifies entire economies.
Together, let us build a world where girls lead, and in doing so, shape a brighter future for all.

🪷COMMEMORATION OF BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

MWAN Lagos commemorated Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Saturday, 26th October 2024, with a Sensitisation/Awareness Walk/Rally at Ebute Metta market starting from the MWAN Lagos Centre at 34 Market Street, Ebute-Metta.
The team led by the President, Dr. Funmi Ige educated the community on the importance of early detection of breast cancer and breast self-examination. Others present were Dr. Temitayo Ishola, Dr. Omobolanle Adelakun, Medical students from CMUL, Idiaraba and LASUCOM, Ikeja. Mrs Atinuke, founder of Atinuke Cancer Foundation, a survivor herself, also joined the awareness rally.
Fliers containing step-by-step explanations on how to perform breast self-examination (produced by MWAN Lagos) were distributed to the market women and men.
Refreshment was provided by the President.

On Tuesday, 15th October 2024, MWAN Lagos President, Dr. Funmi Ige represented the National President, Prof. Rosemary Ogu, at the Opening of the Breast Cancer Awareness & Outreach organised by WashFM 94.9, Omole Phase 2.
She also enlightened the populace on Breast Cancer through the radio station.
Dr. Ige was accompanied by MWAN Lagos YDF Coordinator, Dr. Ibiyemi Somefun.

World Mental Health Day with the theme: Mental Health at Work

On Saturday 19th October 2024, MWAN Lagos President, Dr. Funmi Ige, and some other members joined Her Excellency,Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the First Lady of Lagos State, in a walk organised by Orunsii Welcare Foundation to commemorate year 2024 World Mental Health Day with the theme Mental Health at Work. The walk, which started from LASPark, Alausa to Allen Roundabout, and back served to raise awareness on the importance of mental health and tips to maintaining mental health.
In the words of the First Lady,'no health without mental health '.👍❤️

Back to School Medical Outreach

The Back to School Medical Outreach held on friday, 18th October 2024 , was a huge success to the Glory of God. 🙌
There were health talks on : personal hygiene, oral hygiene, care of the eyes, care of the ears, and menstrual hygiene for girls.
Services rendered include:
Dental checks + scaling and polishing, eye screening, ear examination, ear syringing, audiometric assessment, and general consultation. 170 pupils ( 93 males and 77 females) and 9 teachers were attended to.
Referrals were made to the PHC Ogba to be followed up by the MOH, Ojodu LCDA. Referrals for eye glasses were also made to the LCDA as requested.

Those that needed eye glasses were referred to the LCDA through the MOH as the LCDA Chairman, Mr. Segun Odunmbaku promised to provide the glasses free. 2 cases were referred to LASUTH.

The above medical & surgical outreach sponsored by United Lagos in collaboration with OOOF was held at Military Hospital, Ikoyi, from 12th - 16th August 2024.
MWAN Lagos President, Dr. Funmi Ige, an Anaesthetist, led the MWAN Lagos team made up of:

In all, 101 free surgeries were done. Numerous patients benefitted from consultations, opthalmology, and dental services. To God be the glory!
